There's nothing I love more than finding a peice of furniture or an ornament for my flat.
The best thing about it is when you know how much something is actually worth compared to the price it's being sold at. Rarities such as the ornamental Siamese Cats are kitsch but cute and if you have other retro ornaments or furnishings to go with them, you create a unique and idividual living space for literally a fraction of the price.
When I looked up formica tables on ebay, most of them were valued at £70, unless you could collect from somewhere 200miles away at which you got a discounted price of £40. I picked mine up from a YMCA charity shop for £12.
Vladimir Tretchikoff is a favourtie artist of mine. These paintings were particularly popular during the late 50's/60's.
They were mass produced and most likely due to this and the fact that they're not considered the most tasteful art by the majority, a lot of original prints were disposed of, leaving the remaining few floating around today worth between £150 and £1000.
I have a print of 'The Green Lady' (no.3) on one wall and an original in the original frame of 'Miss Wong' (no.2) which I picked up for £70 at an antique fair, which in the condition of it is worth around £200. She's beautiful.
